Retail theft can become considerably more difficult to manage when the same individuals appear across multiple stores and incidents.

According to the Delaware State Police, a Maryland pair was linked to a series of retail thefts across Bear and Newark between June and July 2026. The incidents involved several retailers, including Home Depot, ShopRite, Lowe’s and Cabela’s. Police said the pair allegedly targeted power tools, equipment and other merchandise, with individual incidents ranging from a few hundred dollars to more than $900. During one July 27 incident at ShopRite, an employee was pepper-sprayed during an attempt to stop the theft. Investigators later connected the suspects to the series and obtained arrest warrants. They were arrested in North East, Maryland, on July 29.

The Delaware Retail Theft Spree illustrates a challenge that goes beyond protecting merchandise at one particular store. When activity occurs repeatedly across different locations, businesses need ways to understand events as part of a wider security picture.

From Individual Incidents to a Broader Security Picture

A single suspicious event may not reveal much on its own. Repeated incidents, however, can provide a different perspective. Multiple locations, similar activity and recurring patterns may become important information for loss-prevention teams.

This is where AI-powered video analytics can complement existing security systems.

How CAPASai Helps Connect Security Intelligence

CAPASai uses CCTV and IoT data to provide businesses with continuous visibility across their monitored environments. Instead of relying entirely on manual review, organizations can configure the system around the events and conditions that matter to each location.

  1. Continuous monitoring: Video feeds and IoT data are analyzed continuously for configured events, anomalies and operational concerns. CAPASai CCTV Video Analytics
  2. Use-case based detection: Each site can be configured with relevant use cases, allowing CAPASai to identify activity that matches those conditions. CAPASai CCTV Video Analytics
  3. Human-in-the-Loop review: Critical alerts can undergo human validation before escalation, adding an additional layer of verification. CAPASai CCTV Video Analytics
  4. Evidence-rich alerts: Relevant video footage and IoT information can accompany an alert, giving teams useful context when reviewing an event.
  5. Investigation support: Stored video and associated data can assist with evidence collection and help teams examine incidents after they occur.
  6. Cross-location analytics: Reporting and analytics can bring events together across stores or sites, helping organizations recognize recurring activity and broader patterns.

The Delaware investigation itself demonstrates the value of connecting information from multiple incidents. State Police said investigative efforts eventually linked the suspects to the separate thefts across several businesses.

For retailers, intelligent video analytics can therefore be useful not only for identifying individual events, but also for building a more connected understanding of activity across their operations.

Organized retail theft can span stores, locations and multiple incidents. A security system that can help connect those events can give businesses a broader view of the risks they face. CAPASai CCTV Video Analytics
