The Overton Co-op Meat Theft case involved repeated losses from the same store over several months. According to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary, police received reports that meat worth a total of £633 was stolen from the Co-op on Winchester Street in Overton on five separate occasions during July, August and September 2026. A 44-year-old man was subsequently charged with five counts of theft from a shop.
Five Incidents at One Store
The reported thefts were not a single isolated event. Police linked five separate occasions to the same investigation, with the combined value of the missing meat exceeding £600.
The suspect was also accused of breaching a criminal behaviour order imposed in March. He appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on September 24, 2026. A later police update reported that he pleaded guilty to the offences and received a 29-week prison sentence.
For retailers, repeated incidents involving the same type of merchandise can be difficult to manage through manual surveillance alone. By the time staff recognize a pattern, several losses may already have occurred.
